Announcing New & Improved Formulas
The Sunscreen You Love and Trust Just Got Better!
You spoke and we listened, in response to customer feedback UV Natural has re-launched the products you rely on with innovative and improved formulas.
What’s the difference?
- Oils that are greasy in texture and known as common allergens have been eliminated.
- We’ve simplified the formula so everyone can use it.
- Each ingredient has been carefully selected, tested and blended to benefit the skin’s texture and all skin types whilst still providing protection from the sun.
- We’ve added colloidal silica, an element required for the proper functioning of the enzyme prolyhydroxylase. High in various minerals, colloidal silica helps to remineralize the skin and also has a softening effect.
UV Natural still includes Mother Nature’s finest ingredients with a nourishing blend of known anti-oxidants, such as green tea, grape seed extract and grape seed oil, to heal rather than hurt.
The new all-natural formulas now suit all skin types and are non-greasy, gentle, hydrating and moisturising. The lotions offer a flawless finish on the skin and can be now worn under make-up offering year round protection.
A Quick FAQ...
1. How is UV Natural different from the other sunscreens out there?
UV natural is different from any other sunscreen out there for many reasons.
- It is the only high performance sunscreen out there that is safe to apply to a baby's skin under the age of 6 months. This is revolutionary in sunscreen and shows you how gentle our formula is.
- UV natural has a shelf life of three years which makes it the most stable sunscreen available today.
- Our performance in and out of the water is unmatched by any "natural" sunscreen.
- UV natural will not sting or burn your eyes.
- It is fragrance free, non allergenic and will not clog the pores of your skin.
2. Many other sunscreens use the term "natural" yet still have undesirable chemicals. How can this be?
It is true, the term "natural" is often misused and there are sunscreens out there using this description while including ingredients like titanium dioxide, parabens and petroleum based derivatives. UV Natural stays well away from these ingredients as current research links these and other sunscreen chemicals to cancer formation, tissue damage, DNA damage, free radical production, allergies, chemical sensitivities etc.
3. I am interested in your UV Natural sunscreen. It indicates UV protection. Does it provide both UVA and UVB protection?
UV Natural Sunscreen provides protection from UV A1, A2, B and C.
A sunscreen that uses natural ingredients and is completely different from the rest...

Did you know the ingredients of some sunscreens could be affecting your health?
Every summer, thousands of people around the world slop on high SPF sunscreen believing that it will help them reduce the possibility of sun related cancers.
Unfortunately, recent medical research is indicating that certain sunscreen ingredients are in fact having a detrimental effect through cumulative use.
These ingredients can mimick oestrogen, create free radicals, or accelerate the production of free radicals in the body. The can also damage DNA within the cells.Sunscreens are divided up into two groups: Chemical (toxic) and Physical (safe). The Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing the UV radiation - this process creates extremely dangerous and active free radicals. The Physical sunscreen work by reflecting the UV light.Zinc and Titanium are classed as the only Physical sunscreens, in fact, Titanium only reflects 30% of UV light and ABSORBS 70%. It functions more as a Chemical sunscreen rather than a Physical one. So it should not be grouped with Zinc at all. Titanium also acts as a "photoactivator" meaning, that in the presence of light, it will activate (catalyse) free radical activity and production, including cancerous and precancerous activity. So next time you see a natural sunscreen labelled "safe and natural for your Baby" have a close look at the ingredients.
If you want more info on the toxicity of the sunscreen ingredients found in other brands, click on the topics below:
Titanium dioxide and damage to DNA -
OMC (octyl methoxycinnamate) binds to DNA -
Compilation of data on various sunscreen ingredients including the ones mentioned above
Sunscreen data extracts on a variety of sunscreen ingredients
Be aware, after reading the information on the toxicity of sunscreen ingredients, you will be in a state of disbelief at how you could have ever considered applying that stuff to your skin and exposing your body with it. Remember, your skin is your largest organ and what you put on it - goes IN.
If you wouldn't eat it - don't put it on your skin.
After reading the above data, you will see that ingredients like Titanium, that are touted as "natural", are far from being natural and safe.
When applied to breast cancer cells in vitro (test tubes) the following chemicals increased cancer cell proliferation/growth:
- Benzophenone-3
- Homosalate
- Octyl Methoxycinnamate
- 4 Methyl-benzylidene camphor (4-MBC)
- Ocryl-dimethyl-PABA
These are the Chemicals found in your typical store bought sunscreens that you are putting on yourself and your children!

In fact one particular article by Professor Johan Moan of the Norwegian Cancer Institute (Moan, J. & Dahlback, A. The relationship between skin cancers, solar radiation and ozone depletion. British journal of Cancer, Vol. 65, No. 6, June 1992, pp. 916-21) makes the startling discovery that the increased occurence of skin cancers is attributed more to the increased use of traditional sunscreens (with the nasty chemicals) than the depletion of the ozone layer. He also notes that Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world per head of population, and that Queensland has the highest rate in Australia.
So where better to come up with a possible solution to the problem than an all natural sunscreen company based in Queensland - Australia.
All of our sunscreens are free from ingredients like:
TitaniumDioxide, Octyl Methoxycinnamate, octinate, Octyl dimethyl PABA,Benzophenone, Oxybenzone, Phenethyl Alcohol, Parsol-17,4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor, Phenoxyethanol, Diazolidinylurea,Hydroxybenzoates, Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic, Methyl Paraben, PropylParaben, sodium laurel sulphate.
We recommend that you investigate the above ingredients in order to assist you in making a conscientious, informed choice. The research data is readily available on the web.
UV Natural provides enhanced sun protection WITHOUT using the toxic chemicals investigated in the research.
UV Natural USA signs the Compact for the Global Production of Safe Health and Beauty Products.
According to industry estimates, on any given day a consumer may use as many as 25 different cosmetics and personal care products containing more than 200 different chemical compounds.
Consumers want to know that the cosmetics and personal care products they're using are safe. And you can win their confidence, their loyalty - and their market share - by taking a pledge, the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, to formulate the products you manufacture domestically and/or globally to use only ingredients that are not known or suspected of causing cancer, mutation or birth defects.
The EU Cosmetics Directive
In January 2003, the European Union amended its cosmetics directive (76/768/EEC) to ban the use of chemicals that are known or strongly suspected of causing cancer, mutation or birth defects. The amendment went into force in September 2004 and bans carcinogens, reproductive toxins and mutagens from cosmetics. Companies are required to remove these chemicals from cosmetic and personal care products sold in the EU. Since the EU directive requires that all cosmetic products containing toxic chemicals be reformulated for the EU market, we're asking cosmetics companies to make those reformulated products readily available in every market they serve - both domestically and globally.Interestingly, many of the large cosmetic companies refuse to sign the Compact.
FORTUNATELY, there is an alternative.UV Natural provides enhanced sun protection WITHOUT using the harmful chemicals indicated and investigated in recent research.
Blended with extracts that nourish the skin, UV Natural assists repair of damaged skin, while its oils enhance the skin's texture and moisturise. We incorporate the cutting edge in zinc oxide formulations and our sunscreen is so revolutionary that it destroys the old myths about what is possible and what isn't with zinc. Our particle size is small enough to be transparent - that means there is no "white film" left on the skin after aplication.
UV Natural Sunscreen Frequently Asked Questions:
- UV natural has a shelf life of three years, that makes it the most stable sunscreen available today.
It is true, the term "natural" is often misued and there are sunscreens out there using this description whilst including ingredients like titanium dioxide, parabens and petroleum based derivatives. UV Natural stays well away from these ingredients as current research links these and other sunscreen chemicals to cancer formation, tissue damage, DNA damage, free radical production, allergies, chemical sensitivities etc.
3. My sunscreen has Titanium Dioxide in it and yet the label says "natural". What is wrong with Titanium?
Titanium Dioxide is a photoactivator that can react with other sunscreen chemicals and potentiate their free radical production or their cancer forming abilities. Recent studies have shown that Titanium damages the DNA of the cell and it has been listed as a potential carcinogen. It is far from being "safe".
4. I have been told that an SPF of more than 15 doesn't really give you any more protection? Is this true?
An SPF 15 blocks approximately 93-95% (figures vary but this is a close range) of UV rays whilst an SPF 30+ blocks approximately 96-98% of UV rays. The difference is marginal but where the two differ is in the length of time you are protected. Generally an SPF 15 will offer protection of about 2 hours depending upon skin type - much less if you tend to burn easily. An SPF 30+ will off protection for up to 4 hours, again depending upon skin type. So, as you can see, even though the protection difference from UV rays is only 3-5%, it is the length of time you are protected for that is important. Multiply the small % difference over a few extra hours each day and the differenec becomes significant.Be smart - give your skin the best protection for the longest time.
5. UV Natural has an SPF rating of 30+, should I use a stronger one like an SPF 45 or SPF 60?
The protective level of a sunscreen plateaus around SPF 30-32, anything more than that is merely misleading by the use of higher SPF numbers. In fact you would be lucky if an SPF 60 or higher gave you more than an extra mintue or two in the sun. What you do get however, is an increase in the amount of toxic chemicals you apply to your skin. Companies like to show their consumers that they have an SPF of 60 or 100 etc and yet these do not offer any more protection than an SPF 30+. It would be nice to think that an SPF 100 would offer 3.5 times more protection than SPF 30 but it is truly not the case. The FDA is bringing into force a 'reality check' on these sorts of unfounded claims via their Final Monograph on Sunscreens, where they specify that the highest rating permissible will be SPF 30+. Whilst this Final Monograph has not been introduced into legislation as yet, we will continue to abide by their suggestions and maintain the integrity of our product. UV natural's range of SPF 30+ actually performs and tests at an SPF 45, yet we do not wish to join the misleading advertising and therefore only label our product at SPF 30+.
6. UV Natural claims a shelf life of 3 years yet the current label only shows 2 years ? Why is that?
UV Natural has demonstrated under approved testing conditions that our sunscreen has a shelf life of 3 years - the highest of any sunscreen anywhere in the world. However, as 2005 was our first year in the USA, we were not permitted to make a claim "exceeding 12 months in our first year of sales". In 2006 we will be able to claim 2 years and then 3 years thereafter. So whilst our labels may only have 2 years expiry on them, we will stand behind our claim of 3 years for the stability of the contents, provided they have been stored within normal conditions.
7. Can I use UV natural on my face?
Yes you can. Just spread it on a little thinner to begin with until you can see how quickly your skin absorbs it, then you can either reapply a little more or just apply more next time. It is safe to put on your upper and lower eyelids.
8. What is the difference between the different types you have in the SPF 30+ range?
The first thing to note is that all of the sunscreens in the SPF 30+ range offer protection from the UV rays for up to 4 hours. This of course depends upon your skin type, as a person with pale skin will need to reapply sooner than someone with darker skin that tans easily. The UV Adult offers water resistance of 2 hours whilst the UV Sport offers water resistance of up to 4 hours.
9. Some of the tubes say "Water Resistant" and some "Very Water Resistant" - what is the difference?
The FDA has two categories to describe water resistance in a sunscreen. "Water Resistant" means that the sunscreen retains its SPF rating after 40 mins in the water and "Very Water Resistant" means it will do so after 80 mins in the water. Even though our sunscreen surpasses those requirements easily, it is the official description we must use by law. The UV Adult is "Water Resistant" and the UV Sport is "Very Water Resistant".
10. Will your sunscreen burn or sting my eyes or my children's eyes?
UV natural does not use any harmful chemicals and our ingredients are so gently you can safely apply our sunscreen to a baby's skin under the age of 6 months. If our sunscreen gets into your eyes, you will feel that something is in there but it will not sting or burn. Just wipe the sunscreen out of your eye and continue on incident free.
11. I notice the price of the UV Natural sunscreen is higher than some of the other sunscreens out there. Why is that?
The price of a sunscreen is directly affected by the quality and type of ingredients used. We could have made our sunscreen much cheaper by using traditional cheap and nasty sunscreen ingredients like titanium, methoxycinnamate, benzophenone, homosalate, octinate, parsol etc but that would be in direct conflict with what we are all about. If we had compromised and used cheap ingredients then we would be "just another one of the hundreds of sunscreens out there" trying to get you to buy our product with fancy packaging and gimmicks.UV Natural is all about using the finest quality ingredients without compromise. Unfortunately the age old saying is still true - "You get what you pay for".
12. Is your sunscreen really Australian?
Yes, our sunscreen is really Australian, we do not put pictures of kangaroos or koalas on our tubes or use Australian phrases on the labels to trick you into thinking to that we are from Australia like some others out there - our sunscreen is the real thing, developed and tested in Australia's harshest sun conditions. We have brought our truly Australian sunscreen to the USA for you to benefit.
